Reflections

February 24, 2012

“I lean back and try to gather my thoughts. Such things take time. Thinking meets resistance, not only from outside, where a premium is put on rapid and effective action, but also from the inside. Thinking often leads to problematising. We seldom stop at just wondering why something happened actually happened. Reflections cause old stuffed-down material to pop up, things you want to bury and never see again. Or think about. But it tends to pop up again…..
….Well, I have done what I thought I´d do when I was very young. On my own steam? I don´t think so. People seldom fulfil their ambitions by themselves alone. A seed won´t grow on solid ground. It needs the right soil, the right mixture of minerals and other nutrients to thrive…”

Aptitude test

February 16, 2012

Is “aptitude” = intelligence?
No. Not exactly.
Is it “basic talents”?
No, not exactly.
Is it the same as “ability”?
Well, in a way.
In a way?
Yes, but it is not exactly the same.
Is it the same as skills?
Well, we are getting closer.
So, what is it?

This is what it is: By aptitude means your combination of basic talents, most of them inherited and thus programmed for in your genetic setup, and your learned knowledge of how to reason and how to understand different kind of problems. This combination leads to a special skill of how to cope with situations also outside your ordinary work.

Now, inviting you to one or more aptitude tests is to invite you to deal with quite demanding tasks. Most of them might be completely new to you. The instruction is mostly followed by a couple of exercise examples and after that it is up to you to use the very best of your basic talents in combination with your knowledge in order to solve the problems.
So, it is not always enough to rely on basic talents only, and it is not enough to rely on what you learned at school or during later work only.
Questions?
If so, write them as comments to this post and I will try to provide you with a reply.

Experiences = truth?

February 8, 2012

So, how are you? How about your present life? Are you pleased and satisfied with your family life? And how about your neighbors? Nice people? Oh, good to hear that. And how about your professional work? Everything going well? So, life is beautiful, isn´t it? Yeah, you agree, I can see that in your face.
But, let us turn page to the next chapter now. How about telling me the truth? You say that you´ve already told me the truth? Well, I have to make you somewhat disappointed, I do not believe you. Or rather, I believe that you possibly believe that you are telling me the truth. But that is not exactly the same as the real truth.
Why I tell you this?
Well, I think we, both of us, know that life is too complicated to become just a white, sunny picture. Happiness comes in very short lived moments. Most times we are occupied with our ongoing struggles in life, with life, with other people, with our work, with our friends and neighbors.
Life is not a one-coloured page. There are here and there light colored fields, here and there dark ones. The music of life goes up and down, sometimes in beautiful harmonies, other times in scary disharmonies.
So, how are you? And how is life?

Are you able to think clearly?

February 2, 2012

“Can we think clearly without formulating our thoughts verbally to others? We might well think so, but it is not certain that it is so. Thinking is one of our most important cognitive functions. Others are our sensory perceptions. Before we can start the process called thinking, we need to put the complicated information that continually flows over us into orderly structures. We have to sort, prioritize, shift and even reject heaps of information before entering some of it, and far from all of it, into our memories. Our thinking is an elaborate adaption process that gives us the ground upon which to discuss historical, current and even future matters, and relate our experiences and ideas. As far as I know we are the only species to have developed such a capacity. If we were deprived of people to communicate with, our thinking process would probably never develop in a constructive way. “
