The picture above

May 29, 2007

The sea in the picture is a part of the Baltic sea outside Stockholm. There are several islands in the background. The white swans are beautiful and common guests. Tho boat to the right is not mine; it belongs to my cousin. From our summer cottage we have this view just in front of us. We are all, originally, from the sea. All living stuff was born in the sea. That is perhaps the reason why I feel so relaxed close to the sea. Water reminds me of birth, of life, of how we have to give and to take, how we have to fight to survive, and how we are given lots and lots of opportunities and possibilities. Close to the sea I feel at home.

And what about the body?

May 24, 2007

Most days come and go. Late evenings you lie down in your bed, close your eyes, and after six – eight hours you wake up, you step up, eat your breakfast and then on the go as usual. The very, very, very sophisticated neuron system, the very, very, very sophisticated internal organs system, the very, very, very sophisticated muscular system seem to work, everything very, very, very well adapted to all other systems, very, very, very well coordinated with everyhing else. And all that without any conscious control. It is automatic systems, much, much, much more sophisticated than any computer. Everything running smoothly…until one day when you wake up feeling pain somewhere or when you can not clearly see with your right eye or when you sense an uncomfortable feeling of losing your balance or… Then there are some system failures in your body. All systems are in fact connected with your mind, i.e. your experiences, your fantasies, your imaginations, your fears and your joys. This means that most systems are dependent of your mental health.
I, myself, am a common person, living in a common world among common people. I love some people, I like several people, I take a natural distance to some other people and I have a feeling of disgust to a few other ones (for example those who have betrayed me). I live in a world of conflicts. Some conflicts affect my mind in a way that I feel stressed, uncomfortable, now and then unhappy. My body gives signals of my discomfort. Yesterday my doctor told me that I suffer from zoster (or shingles). My eyesight is not any longer what it used to be. When I get hurt my body gets hurt.
It is always important to listen to your body.

Why English?

May 16, 2007

I am not belonging to any country with English as the mother tongue (which, by the way, will easily be noticed when you read my lines). I am a Swede, living in Stockholm, Sweden. So why not write in Swedish?
It would be too easy.
All people from abroad would not understand.
Writing in English is a challenge. And a very good exercise.
I know that I am far from perfect in my command of English, but why try to, always, be perfect? Could I contribute with some of my thoughts to others, making them think twice or start to talk to someone else about what I am writing – I will be very satisfied.
So, please go ahead and read.
And if you want to make any comment – feel free to express yourself, in Swedish or English.

Silence, please

May 16, 2007

There is an old tale saying that if you can not keep your mouth shut you will not be able to hear the birds sing. I live in a city. I am used to the common city noise. I am trained to stick with it. But there is one noise that I do have problems with, and that is the babbling Human voice. People loudly chatting on the Tube or walking down the streets, or, even worse, babbling in their cell phones. I am not talking about the common small talk, or the serious discussions always going on. I am talking about the loud bullshit chit-chat, close to screaming. That is an offense to everyone around. But more and more people do not care about the others. The others? Who are they? What do they want? What? Silence? Ho, ho, ho…so why don´t they move to the mountains or to some silly little island somewhere?
I have a problem with all those, who don´t care. We, a lot of people, bother today about the climate change and the green house gases. I think it is time to also bother about the Human noise situation. That is also a climate factor. Silence, please.

The organisation makes the man

May 11, 2007

We are all organised – with very few exceptions. We belong to organisations: the society, the company, the school, the gang, the club, the association, the family. All those organisations are made out from historical traditions with certain rules, norms, guidelines, values. A membership require your will and your ability to adjust to all those frames. If you don´t behave – out you go.
That is the game of the play. This means that you are a creation not only by your inside driving forces, but much, much more by all those pressures coming from the surroundings. If you now and then feel weak, bothered, confused, lacking a stable sense of your own – you´d better first try to take a look on all those groups and organisations to which you are affiliated. Confusions and conflicts within those areas could very well make you sick. Or ill. Research is the best way to deal with those problems. Research in the meaning of investigation of what is around you. And sometimes you´d better find yourself a new speaking partner to really analyze and to really comprehend what is going on. So – what is going on?

The value of a good trademark

May 6, 2007

There are lots of companies and organisations that spend millions to create and to take out a brand name that forever will be connected with the names of the companies. McDonald, Nike, IKEA, Ferrari, Volvo etc etc. are typical examples.
Barcelona in the northeast of Spain is probably the most tourist frequent city in Europe. My guess is that around 70-80% of all tourists will visit the spectular buildings made by the architect Antoni Gaudi. Gaudi is Barcelona, and Barcelona is Gaudi. Lots and lots of travellers make Barcelona to their target just to visit and to see the buildings of Gaudi. Gaudi has most probably brought enormous amounts of money to Barcelona city. The value of Gaudi could be counted in billions of Euros. The most interesting thing is that Gaudi made arcithectual arts in a way that deviated in a very new and a very creative mood. There is nothing similar to La Sagrada Familia, just to bring forward one example. Barcelona became something different, something new, far from the traditional European. Mediterranean cities.
Could we learn something from this example?
Well, don’t make any conclusions too fast. It is not enough by dressing yourself up as an alien. Piercings, tatoos and black hair is not new or different anymore. And good artists are good because that they could combine deep rooted dream pictures with the fascinations of the new, unforeseen, soft and tempting imaginations.
Do you want to make a good trademark? Try to learn something from Barcelona and from Gaudi.
I am full of impressions because my wife and I visited Barcelona recently during a few days.
